Eighth Annual Plattsburgh Roducky Derby Set For Saturday, Sept. 8

PLATTSBURGH, NY __ Adopt your Roducky and get in on the “roduck”ulous fun during the Plattsburgh Rotary Club’s eighth annual Roducky Derby on Saturday, Sept. 8 in Plattsburgh.

The Roducky Derby will start around 4 p.m. immediately following the Beat Retreat on Sept. 8 in front of Macdonough Monument during the Battle of Plattsburgh festivities.

Hundreds of little yellow rubber floating roduckies will cascade down the manmade river along the sidewalk leading to the Saranac River vying for top roducky and an assortment of prizes. This year’s grand prize, a trip for two (including transportation and lodging) to New York City to attend a taping of “Live with Regis and Kelly,” is being provided by NewsChannel 5 (WPTZ).

Robert Grugle, Roducky Derby chairperson, said the members of the Plattsburgh Rotary Club work hard to make the Roducky Derby an exciting event because proceeds from the derby benefit many charitable organizations in the local community.

“Many members of the Rotary Club take time out of their busy schedules to help raise funds through this event to continue the work many non-profit organizations do each and every day in the North Country,” said Grugle. “We also enjoy the excitement among the kids – young and old – as they watch their adopted roduckies rush down the river to the very end.”

In addition to the New York City trip, other race prizes include:

·         One (1) night lodging for two at Mirror Lake Inn – Mirror Lake Inn

·         Four (4) non-holiday adult life passes for the 2007-08 Winter Season at Whiteface Mountain – ORDA

·         $50 Gift Certificate – Ground Round, Plattsburgh

Individual Roduckies can be adopted for a $5 donation, five for $20, 14 for $50, 30 for $100 and 75 for $250. Businesses can also get in on the fun, by adopting roduckies at $25 each.
