Steve Frederick Becomes Past President |

Highlights from 08-09 Steve began today’s program with a few highlights that stood out during his presidency.
- Strategic Plan The club implemented its first Strategic Plan which has proven to be a valuable guide for club progress. Incoming president Bonnie Black has already taken steps to bring the plan with her into the next year.
- Fundraising There were some very impressive efforts made during the last year to raise money for the club. Standing out among the rest was the shortest, most effective fundraising effort seen yet. Jon Cooper rallied the bankers and club members to raise $4,142 for the Food Shelf in just a half hour.
- Attendance Seats have been filling up all year long as members make a valiant effort to keep attendance up. Steve recognized by name those whose attendance was 90% or better and then the following people who maintained 100% attendance: Anne Cutaiar, Bob Parks, Vicki Marking, Marsha Cook and Barb Straw. Remember—it’s easy to do make-ups for any missed meetings. Steve also pointed out that no club members died during his year as President.
Sage Advice President Steve recalled a few wise words he received from Past President Rod Giltz. Steve said, “Rod told me I would be surprised by how many people come out of the woodwork to help make things run smoothly. He was so right.” Steve reflected on people who have done just that during his presidency. Members were asked to consider a few people in particular.
...Who Would do it? If Brian Hammond didn’t help set up the sound system every week who would? If Elle Berger didn’t take care of the Food Shelf who would? If Barb Straw didn’t run the Rotary Office every day who would? If Paul Grasso was not always disruptive at the “rowdy table” who would be? (It was agreed by all that Bill Rowe could likely take charge if need be) If Marsha Cook didn’t balance the checkbook, write the checks, make the deposits who would? If Ange LaMariana didn’t push to raise money for the nursing homes, who would? If Keith Tyo didn’t manage the website, help with computer issues, and volunteer for everything who would? If Jay Kerley and Al Sweenor didn’t coordinate highway cleanup who would? If Bonnie Black didn’t work her butt off to make sure the Fishing Tournament ran smoothly year after year who would? If Peter Cadieux didn’t handle the New Member Orientations who would? If Corn Forrence didn’t rein in the Program Committee who would? If Sonia Long didn’t serve as the chief money chaser for Radio Day who would? If Rick Liebowitz hadn’t stepped up to run Radio Day, who would have? There are many others who have active roles on a weekly basis and deserve to be thanked for their obvious commitment and genuine service before self.
