ROTARY INTERNATIONAL DISTRICT GOVERNOR, ARNOLD LAWRENCE (LEFT), GAVE AN INSPIRING PRESENTATION WHICH INCLUDED GREAT PRAISE FOR PLATTSBURGH’S ROTARY CLUB. HE IS SHOWN ABOVE WITH ASSOCIATE DISCTRICT GOVERNOR, JIM BENNETT OF THE SUNRISE CLUB.

Program: District Governor’s Visit: Arnold Lawrence

“I spend a lot of my time with Rotary International traveling to the 25 clubs in the district. I look closely at them, measuring them against four different pillars. Let’s spend a little time talking about your club and see how you did,” began Arnold Lawrence, District Governor.

The four categories Lawrence looks at start with community. One of the components of community is developing sustainable programs, and the Plattsburgh Rotary Club has no shortage of these. Lawrence was particularly impressed with the Rotaract Program.

The international community mustn’t be left out of the equation. Once again, the club has set an example to others by seeing the Nicaragua Latrine Project through to completion.

The Rotary Foundation is a key category as well. It defines who we are and what we are. Lawrence said, “I know you’ve supported it before, and you’ll really support it this year.”

Last and of great importance is fostering leadership among the club. Developing an environment that encourages new members to join and then stay involved is key.

“I was very impressed with your Membership Committee and its program. Actually being here today, I’ve realized that your program is unique in the district and something I’d like to promote to other clubs,” he said.

In sum, he was very impressed with our club and how well we measure up as a whole. He looks forward to seeing more district level leadership develop from our ranks in the coming years.

On a parting note, Lawrence encouraged members to get involved with the upcoming 2010 RI Conference. They are looking for volunteers to help visitors find their way around Montreal.
