Dancers affilited with Norte Maar share a performance with club members.

Program: Norte Maar Special Performance

Norte Maar for Collaborative Projects in the Arts is a nonprofit organization that encourages and supports the arts in the North Country. Jason Andrew, founder of Norte Maar, has worked tirelessly to help foster the artistic community in our region.

Andrew said, “We share a common belief, and that is the arts are a reflection of the Great Society.” With frustration, he explained that the arts continue to be marginalized in our schools and much of our communities seem to dismiss the importance of arts. “It’s the opinion of many that great art can only be associated with great cities,” said Andrew. However, Norte Maar’s mission is to bring unexpected art to unexpected places. They are well known for ballets held in locations such as drained swimming pools and Wal-Mart parking lots. Andrew states, “Great art happens everywhere ,and we are not limited by geography.”

Highlighted during the program were some of Norte Maar’s many exhibitions. From New York City and London to Evergreen Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, Norte Maar continues to feature great art.

Dancers from the organization put on a spectacular performance and artists demonstrated skills such as making and designing pottery. Visit Norte Maar’s website: www.nortemaar.org
