The Bulletin -- July 7, 2010 (#1047)

DISTRICT GOVERNOR-ELECT BILL GRAY (L) WITH ROTARIAN BILL ROWE. (C) AND CLUB PRESIDENT COLIN READ (R) .

Program: Colin Read; Club Assembly

Dr. Colin Read, Professor of Economics and Finance at SUNY Plattsburgh, has taken the reins from Past President Bonnie Black as the 2010-2011 Rotary President. He explained the theme for this club assembly: “Our Club is Rich Indeed.” The club, Colin said, is rich in talent, energy and commitment. He is enthusiastic about the coming year.

Membership Committee — Jack Prim: The two main goals are increasing membership and retaining current members so that we can continue to move toward our mission. The committee will work on finding ways to facilitate involvement of all members including senior members who have so much to offer to the club. They will also be keeping track of the people who are actively participating.

New Initiatives — Pres. Colin: The club will no longer be building Rotary houses. Instead, we will look into building a number of gazebos that will serve a larger part of the community.

Youth Activities — Doug Kashorek/Dave Kimmel: Doug would like to see a few ideas take flight. The committee is seeking volunteers to help with an essay contest for children living in Clinton County. Dave would like to see a shoe collection take place for needy children. If you are interested in helping on the Youth Committee, see Doug.

Work with Seniors — Ellie Murray: The club will continue Dr. Angelo LaMariana’s good work gathering funds and much needed items for senior citizens in the nursing homes. There are preliminary plans in place for a fundraising breakfast, and there is interest in increasing one-on-one visits between club members and seniors.

ELLE BERGER RECEIVES ACCOLADES FROM DISTRICT GOVERNOR-ELECT BILL GRAY FOR BECOMING A CLUB BENEFACTOR.

Benefactor Society: Bill Gray, District Governor-Elect: announced the newest members to the Benefactor Society. A thousand dollar donation in your will allows you to make a lasting gift to the foundation. The following members have recently become members: Ellen Bouchard, Jay Kerley and Elle Berger. Maryanne Bukolt-Ryder has generously offered to prepare wills for free as long as $1,000 is donated to the Foundation. Colin pointed out that a $1,000 dollars donation 50 years from now is about the equivalent of $300 today. This is an easy way to give that does so much good in the long run.

Centennial Park— Gil Zahn: The finishing touches are being put on the pavilion at Centennial Park. The pavilion is slated to be completed by the fall.

District Conference—Bill Gray: Plattsburgh will host the District Conference next year in October 2011. The event will celebrate fellowship and the many successes seen by clubs throughout the district. There is a committee forming to work on the conference, so please see Colin if you are interested in helping.

Visiting Rotarians: Jim Bennett (Asst. District Governor; Sunrise Club), Bill Gray (District Governor-Elect), Dr. V. S. Phull (India), John Livesley (Australia), Gerraldeen Deutrum (Australia)
