Robert Parks Chosen Rotarian of the Year
PLATTSBURGH, NY __The Rotary Club of Plattsburgh has named Robert W. Parks Rotarian of the year for 2008-2009. Parks, President and Publisher of the Press-Republican, was presented with the award during the Club’s June 24th meeting. Steven G. Frederick, immediate past president of the club, said Parks was chosen for his remarkable commitment to the club during the past year, especially for his work as When asked about this recognition, Parks stated, “I am honored to be recognized by the Plattsburgh Rotary Club as the Rotarian of the Year. The Plattsburgh Rotary Club does such great work for the community with its scholarships, gifts and community service programs such as the CV-Tec House project, Adopt-A-Highway, Food Shelf and the Centennial Park project. Under Rotary Club President Steve Frederick’s leadership, our club has seen a growth in membership, as well as success in many fundraising projects like the Rotary Fishing Tournament, Rotary Radio Day and the Roducky Derby. I am proud to be a member of this club and to work with my fellow Rotarians to serve our community.” Parks joined the Rotary Club of Plattsburgh in November 2000 after transferring from a Rotary Club based in Danbury, Connecticut. Parks received the “Service Above Self Award” in 1999 and the “Distinguished Rotarian Club Award” in 2000 from the Danbury, Connecticut Rotary Club. He is a three-time Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. In addition to his Rotary commitments, Parks serves on the board of directors for the Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce, The Development Corporation, and The Foundation of CVPH Medical Center. He is on the advisory board of the Adirondack Community Trust and is chairman of the Museum Day Committee. He has been active with the Battle of Plattsburgh Association and the Adirondack District, Boy Scouts of America, where he serves on the Nominating/Leadership Committee. ------------------------------------------------------------- Formed in 1926, the Rotary Club of Plattsburgh has a current membership of approximately 105 active members. The Club raises funds for various community and global causes. Funds have been used to support international projects such as the North Country Mission of Hope and the Pit Privy Project in Nicaragua; academic scholarships for students attending SUNY Plattsburgh, Clinton Community College and CVPH Medical Center Radiology School; and assistance for community youth groups including the Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, Plattsburgh Little League, and the YMCA. The Rotary Club sponsors several events throughout the year to raise funds, including the annual Rotary International Fishing Classic, Rotary Radio Day and Roducky Derby during the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration Weekend. The club meets every Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 56 Cumberland Avenue in Plattsburgh.
