The Rotary Club of Plattsburgh and the Plattsburgh Sunrise Rotary Club honored five individuals with the Paul Harris Award on Friday, May 29 at the Valcour Educational Conference Center in Plattsburgh.
Honored were (L-R): Barbara Straw, Eleanor Berger and Keith Tyo, members of the Rotary Club of Plattsburgh (noon club), Alice Sample, a local community service volunteer, and Gail Recore, of the Plattsburgh Sunrise Rotary Club.
The Paul Harris Fellow Award is the highest honor a club can bestow on a person, either a Rotarian or a community member. The award acknowledges "service above self", which an individual has offered to their community, their nation or indeed to the world. Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary, and this award program was created to fund many Rotary Foundation programs.
Straw, Berger, Tyo and Recore were honored for their service through their Rotary club programs. While not a Rotarian, Sample was recognized for her dedication to child literacy and long-time service as a volunteer for the Journey in Reading program.
