Plattsburgh Rotary Club “Roducky Derby” Makes Successful Impact Over $5,000 netted for local community projects PLATTSBURGH, NY – On Saturday, Sep. 13, the Plattsburgh Rotary Club hosted the ninth annual Roducky Derby during the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration Weekend. With over 700 little yellow “roduckies” competing for a list of 25 prizes donated from local businesses, the Derby was a spectacle for children and adults alike. Thanks to the City of Plattsburgh Fire Department, the sidewalk behind Macdonough Monument was transformed into a manmade river. Hundreds of colored roduckies, adopted by many generous community members, were sent cascading down the hill to compete for the top prizes. The winner of the coveted Roducky Derby corporate duck race, PrimHall Enterprises, will have the honor of displaying the “Roducky Cup” at its manufacturing facility on the Spellman Road. John Prim, President of PrimHall Enterprises and Rotary Club member, celebrated his win saying, “PrimHall is extremely pleased to be the corporate winner this year! We are happy to support the various community projects via the Roducky Derby. The trophy is proudly displayed in our lobby. We are already working on preparations for next year with our Roducky Duck in an even more aggressive (duck) training program than last year.” WPTZ, NewsChannel 5 was the contributor of first prize, four tickets to the “Conan O’Brien Show.” These tickets, along with transportation and lodging, were won by top roducky Dave South of Plattsburgh. Second Place went to Mike Trudo of Plattsburgh who won one night lodging for two courtesy of the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid. Third Place, four adult, non-holiday ski tickets to Whiteface Ski Center donated by the Olympic Regional Development Authority, was awarded to Jim Gadue of Rouses Point. Kneucraft Jewelers contributed an Orange Sapphire Pendant that was won by Ann Laravia of Plattsburgh who adopted the fourth place roducky. In all, 25 prizes, donated by business sponsors, were given away. Other sponsors included Bluff Point, Nine Platt Hospitality Group, Champlain National Bank, Country Expressions, AAA Northway, Meadowbrook Healthcare, Plattsburgh YMCA, and PrimHall among others. The members of the Plattsburgh Rotary Roducky Derby Committee would like to thank all of the local businesses and individuals who supported this wonderful event by purchasing individual and corporate roduckies. A special thank you to the City of Plattsburgh Public Works Department for their assistance. Roducky Derby chairperson Robert Grugle said, “We appreciate the generous support of the community for our duck race, as it allows Rotary to support our many world and community projects.” Overall, the ninth annual Roducky Derby raised approximately $5,100 to be used by the Plattsburgh Noon Rotary Club for charitable community projects. The club supports many charitable local organizations including the Clinton County Christmas Bureau, the YMCA, the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration Committee, the North Country Mission of Hope, and the Boy and Girl Scouts.
