Plattsburgh Rotary Club “Roducky Derby” Makes Successful Impact Over $8,000 netted for local community projects
PLATTSBURGH, NY – On Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, the Plattsburgh Rotary Club of Plattsburgh hosted the 12th annual Roducky Derby during the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration Weekend. With over 800 little yellow “roduckies” competing for a list of 15 prizes donated from local businesses, the Derby was a spectacle for children and adults alike. Thanks to Jerry Marking of the Plattsburgh City Fire Department, the sidewalk behind Macdonough Monument was transformed into a manmade river. Hundreds of colored roduckies, adopted by many generous community members, were sent cascading down the hill to compete for the top prizes. The winner of the coveted Roducky Derby corporate duck race, Donald Moore, C.P.A.,, will have the honor of displaying the “Roducky Cup” at its office. WPTZ, NewsChannel 5 and the Rotary Club of Plattsburgh were the contributors of first prize, four tickets to the “Jimmy Fallon Show.” These tickets, along with transportation and lodging, were won by Sue Leblanc of Plattsburgh. Second Place went to David Bray of Swanton, Vt., who won a 32" Vizio Flat Screen TV courtesy of MaryAnne Bukolt-Ryder. Third Place, an Onyx and a Mother of Pearl Silver Pendant donated by Kneucraft Jewelers, was awarded to Mike Ferrell.
In all, 20 prizes, donated by business sponsors, were given away. Other sponsors included Fred Villari's Studio, NBT Bank, Ashley's Furniture, YMCA, Kayak Shack, Punki's, UFirst Federal Credit Union, Lake Shore Candy, Country Expression, Dawn's Furniture, Meadowbrook Nursing Home, and Livingood's Restaurant. The members of the Plattsburgh Rotary Roducky Derby Committee would like to thank all of the local businesses and individuals who supported this wonderful event by purchasing individual and corporate roduckies. Roducky Derby chairperson Ellen Bouchard said, “We appreciate the generous support of the community for our duck race, as it allows Rotary to support our many world and community projects.” Overall, the 12th annual Roducky Derby raised approximately $8,00 to be used by the Rotary Club for charitable community projects. The club supports many charitable local organizations including the Clinton County Christmas Bureau, the YMCA, the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration Committee, the North Country Mission of Hope, and the Boy and Girl Scouts.
