ROTARY BED RACES TO RUN SATURDAY, SEPT. 12

Local, Statewide Officials to Participate

 

The Rotary Club of Plattsburgh's Celebrity Bed Race Regatta will take place on City Hall Place in downtown Plattsburgh, at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, prior to the Battle of Plattsburgh parade. Bed Race Regatta Co-Chair Vicki Reome Brayton said, "It's hard to believe that we are holding our 16th bed races. Many visitors to the Battle of Plattsburgh weekend have told us they enjoy watching the teams race down the street as much as they do the annual parade. We hope everyone stops by and cheers on the teams."  

Last year, the Kiwanis Breakfast Club of Plattsburgh and the Plattsburgh State men's hockey team took home the coveted Golden Bed Pan in the Celebrity Division while Ryan Brienza from Zafra, Inc., along with a second squad from the Plattsburgh State men's hockey team, won the Golden Bed Pan in the Industry Division race. 
 
 

LOCAL CELEBRITIES

Local and statewide government leaders and businesspeople vie for the Regatta top winner position. Last year, SUNY Plattsburgh President Alexander Enyedi, Clinton Community College President Ken Knelly, North Country State Senator Dan Stec, Assemblyman Michael Cashman and Plattsburgh City Mayor Wendell Hughes participated in the event.  Local business leaders vie for the top spot in the "Battle of the Industries" including representatives from non-profit organizations, credit unions, insurance agencies, car dealers, and real estate brokers. 

Members of the athletic teams at SUNY Plattsburgh and Clinton Community College will once again serve as racers pushing the beds and vying for the "Golden Bed Pan" Award! SUNY Plattsburgh's Burghy and the Rotary club's Roducky will go head to head in the Mascot heat. Come watch all the excitement! 

Reome Brayton also thanked the various sponsors for this event.  "The Rotary Club of Plattsburgh is very pleased with the support our sponsors have always provided for the bed races. We would not be able to hold this event without the support of the community and especially the students from SUNY Plattsburgh. Thanks to everyone involved."

 

TEAMS

Teams will consist of up to seven members: four pushers, one passenger (a local community or business member). The Rotary club will provide the beds available for use by teams. All team members must be at least 18 years old, and all riders will be required to wear a helmet.

Teams will race the beds on a track setup on City Hall Place. In each heat, the first bed to completely cross the into the end zone will be declared the winner in each race. 

It seems simple, but it all depends on teams working together,” said Reome Brayton. “We’ll see what teams will be able to keep their beds in motion and the rider remains intact.”

The Rotary Club distributes proceeds from its various events among many of the club’s beneficiaries, such as academic scholarships for SUNY Plattsburgh, Clinton Community College and CVPH Medical Center Radiology School; monies to assist the Beartown Ski Area, Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, Plattsburgh Little League, YMCA, Literacy Volunteers, North Country Mission of Hope, and other worthy causes.
